Default Quick earth question.

Morning all,

So long time Volvo owner but new to the xc90. Just changed the battery over to a proper one and cleaned the surplus acid out of the battery area.

While in there I noticed a lovely large bolt that screams "earth point" to me ...however it looks like the 90 has the earth routed to the front. Any reason I cannot pop a good thick lead from the negative post to the bolt ? I'm a strong believer in good earth's and have found it nips a lot of potential problems in the bud on other models.

Car is as sig ..xc90 2006 (55 plate) manual 2.4d. euro 4.

Thanks

Iain

I don't see any reason why you could not add a supplementary earth as you describe but my view would it would be not worth the effort - I don't think I've ever heard of earthing issues on the Mk1 XC90 with the exception of the horns at the front.

With earthing, the fewer the joints and connections the better, hence a direct earthing cable to the engine bay, potentially the engine block rather than battery to body, body to block etc. which would be double the connections.

The main grounding point is just beside the battery. Follow the ground cable.

The battery he has replaced may not have been the original/correct and so the wiring may have been previously "got at"??

Cheers

Dave
