My XC90 successfully made it all the way to my Local Indy today for a full belt change. It also made it all the way home to

£420 all in, much cheaper than the Main Dealer.

Sounds very good - which dealer have you been to? I've only been to the main Volvo dealer in Cardiff so far who gives very good service but obviously pricey.

CVS Cardiff. Steve runs the shop and is very good. His unit is located next to cardiff docks. He also provides a free courtesy car if you book him - a lovely 1999 T5

Got an appointment at 1pm for a new battery. Just praying it doesn't break down on the way there.

New battery fitted, free health check conducted, free coffee supped and biscuits nibbled. No problems at all. The old battery wasn't giving problems, but with its age I was really concerned that I was pushing my luck a bit far.

Gave it a clean today and noticed the tailgate struts are a little lazy now the weather has turned cold. They're still actually working and support the lid just fine so I won't count it as a fault just yet.

However, they definitely don't do so as positively as they used to so a new set ordered.

And thats the name of the game with these cars. The slightest hint, the merest whiff, the tiniest early indicator of a problem on the horizon should be pounced upon immediately.

Going back to the battery I think I timed it well. After 2 days stitting idle the new battery shows 13.1 volts, wheres the old one showed 12.5 volts after 2 days so the difference is apparent.

So far so good with mine, I have had no repeat messages telling me the gearbox is about to implode, I’m confident I can move on & service the haldex, diff & angle drive without wasting my money.
