Being petrol I would say you won't be worried about diesel bug. I had misread your original post and I do apologise. One other question though, have you ever bottomed out hard in the car?

Next time it happens try undoing the filler cap & see if it will start. Could possibly be creating a vacuum in the tank for some reason ?
