Can You Explain This One Then?
Of course, I know that you can explain it really.
Got into my 2005 V70 this afternoon, and it was raining (first time I've driven it in the rain - this might be relevant). The first thing I did was press the stalk button to turn on the rain-sensitive wipers. The headlights were already on. I put it into reverse (it's an auto), and the message showed on the stereo (HU850) "Parking Assistance Active". There was nothing behind me, so I expected silence, but instead, I got a series of long beeps, of a slightly different tone to the usual 'obstacle' beeps. They continued as long as I was in reverse, moving or not. A couple of minutes later, maybe quarter of a mile away, at a junction, I put it into reverse again, and the same, wrong, beeps were there again. Soon after that, I went into my centre console cubby for a Smint, and noticed a little yellow light in there that I've never seen before. It's on the passenger side of the cubby, and it was on. Turning the headlights off had no effect on it. After ten miles or so, at another junction, I looked into the cubby again, and the light had gone off. I then realised that until that point, the hazard switch on the dash had been glowing red, and now it wasn't. It usually doesn't. So I tried reverse again, and the park assist is working again. What's that about then? Because it was raining quite hard, I wondered if I have some sort of light sensor even though I don't have auto headlights. Hopefully somebody knows what's going on... Check that water hasn't got in to the CEM, make sure the closure panel at the bottom of the windscreen water drains are fully clear, you will have to take the plastic panel off to do this - Mike

So is the light in the cubby supposed to be on with the headlights or not? Is the hazard switch supposed to glow bright red with the headlights or not?
I assume it's yes and yes, but why would that affect the parking sensors? Last edited by imadoofus; Aug 26th, 2011 at 19:17. Reason: Sausage fingers |

you will probabaly find the interior lights dont work in full daylight either , there is a light sensor :-) The rain could have affected teh parking sensors as it says in your owner's manual .

Not had any of the other problems but I have noticed that the reversing sensor goes off in heavy rain (only in reverse of course)

Had the same thing in my Jag and also previous Range Rover. It's just rain on the sensors.
