Question 2010 XC70 Diesel Automatic - Noise from Transmission / G'Box

Hi,

My Volvo started to produce a low volume whine from, I assume, the gearbox. It starts at about 25 mph but doesn't really get louder with speed. It gets slightly louder when breaking. It sounds like straight cut gear mesh noise as a comparison, although I understand that straight cut gears would not be used in this box

When the engine is ticking over it feels lumpy, the rpm is constant, but I can feel a lumpy vibration through the drivers seat. On occasion the gear change feels as if it is hesitant, but it is subtle and not always obvious.

The car has done 42000 miles and has been serviced by Volvo and is still in warranty. Apart from the noise and tick over it drives well and changes gear as expected. However, the low volume whine is new and it has increased from a vague background noise to one which is definitely there.

Any ideas? I have an appointment on Monday with the dealer.

Many Thanks,

BlowingOldBoots

I know it sounds daft, but turn off your a/c, I thought mine was failing until I turned off the fan so I could hear it better... cue noise vanishing as well.
