Default XC90 Starting Problem

Hi All,
Looking for help and advice re my starting problem.
I have a 2005 (Old shape) XC90 2.5T. I have never had any starting problems with the car previously. Over the last couple of days even when hot I have put the key in lit up the dash board and turned the key and no starter not even a click. Initially repeated starting by turning the key and it eventually starts no problem. Today I started the car no problem and then switched it off as I forgot something. Tried to start again and nothing from the starter.
I have an AUTEL code reader and plugged it in and there is an error camshaft position sensor. Does this stop the starter? Any ideas on what the problem is? Car is an auto. The alarm doesnt work hasnt done for a long time so I dont think its linked.
Look forward to any ideas

Camshaft sensor error won't stop the starter.
Check the small plug on the starter.
The spade connector and the plug insides can get gunked up.
Remove and replace it a few times to scrape any corrosion but better still, sand or file both so clean metal is showing.

A free and easy starting (pun intended) point.

If there are no obvious connector issues, cam shaft sensor can do strange things. Change that first as you have a code and then see how it behaves.

Get a mate to tap the starter motor with a bar or a bit of tubing while you turn the key to start it.
If it starts then it is the starter motor solonoid or the brushes that are shot.
Tapping the motor helps things move.

Clear the code and then re-read when the issue happens again to make sure the code correlates with the starting problem.

Can't see the cam sensor affecting starting though.

If starter motor and its wake up signal wires + relay are OK (I would check these first) then the only thing what is messing about is CEM. Sometimes can be ignition wake up switch but unlikely in this matter.

The more you wait - the more CEM problems you will face soon or later and one day wont start a car at all.
