whats it worth
how much is my '96 10v 850 worth? its done 106000 miles has new tyres all round auto gearbox thats is perfect ,the body work is in immaculate condition as is the interior..just wondering what the ball park figure would be as i am considering taking up the option of a new mobility car which seems to be an excellent deal..no tax,no insurance ,no repairs to pay for,no tyres to pay for in fact nothing at all apart from the diesel

Difficult to say really. FWIW I paid £850 for my 850 (1996 2.5GLT 20v Est) in 2009 when it had 138,000 and FSH. That was a private sale.

My S70 2.5 auto cost me £360 two months ago, came with 3 months tax as well and 11 months MOT. Excellent nick, only 2 tiny supermarket trolley dings, no scuffed bumpers, good tyres all round and full service history, 137,000 miles, superb comfortable drive. Second hand cars just do not fetch much money at the moment, everybody is feeling the pinch I think.

i sold my 1995 Volvo 855 2.0 20V 143bhp with FSH and 134,455 Miles around a month ago for €1,050 here in ireland while the majority advertised at the time were selling from €250 to €750. And some of those had been on sale for nearly 1 year too. Luckily the right buyer at the right time arrived on the doorstep and realised how good a car it was.
Was worth a lot more considering how well looked after it was but hey, the right buyer will pay the cash if they really want the car. Last i heard it's been converted into a sleeper 2.3T manual with 270bhp. Least it's going to continue a while longer

billyboggins, it much depends on where you sell the car, as it how much its worth, as some people will pick up bargains because the seller is eager to sell at a cheap price, while some sellers will hold out for a top price as they know how great these cars are when looked after (that would be me), as i would rather keep my volvo then ever sell it on the cheap.
Just do your research and look on forums, and private sales, keep an eye on what sells (and what doesn't) and then you can pitch your price in-between for a realistic idea of what the car will go for. |

Hi Billyboggins,
This may be totally irrelevant, but I've spent a fortune on my 1998 V70 (below) and I've got it insured for an agreed value of £3000. I too am disabled, and have crunched the numbers, and it's my firm belief that (once you've paid for it) you can run your own car cheaper than going down the Motability route. I fully accept that it totally contradict's what I've said above. That's because I have rotten luck and bought one that was less than perfect! However, the spec on my car (Sport Pack, Comfort Pack, Winter pack and Luxury Pack) is such that you wouldn't get a Motability car with similar spec without paying a very large deposit! And either doing the same again in three years time, or buying the car at the end of the lease period. Hmmmm? Regards.

I'm sure you've made the right decision, you really wouldn't like parting with your DLA for some shiny modern tin can of a car. Even if it does do a hell of a lot more to the gallon, than your lovely Volvo! Enjoy.
