1999, v70 2.5TD not starting after engien change

hi
i have just put a 1996 S70 2.5TD engine into a 1999 V70, everything went in easily but now it will not start.
everything is plugged in, the battery is charged, the engine has oil, water etc but when i turn the ignition key the engine light stays on and nothing happens. the vehicle hasnt run since last year, and when it was running last time the cam belt snapped - could the ECU of shut itself down? or is it not compatible with the new engine?
any help greatly appreciated

the engine on the 1996 will be msa .15.7. the v70 could be msa 15.8 so there is an issue there with the ecus.
