Speakers
I have a hacked SC801 in my 850 and the rear speakers are pants. They are muffled. They were muffled when I had a JVC CD player fitted previously. I am planning on fitting sone Alpine speakers of simlilar size behind the grilles. Will I get better sound or do I need a better Head unit and speakers? I don't want to fit another head unit,I just want rid of the crap speakers.

If they are muffled, are the tweeters working that are in the D pillars?

Ain't none there mate. My car had a SC 700 when I got it. It has the dashboard ones though and they work.

They look about the right size but without taking the parcel shelf off I can't be certain.

Hi
I've been messing around with my stereo a bit recently. The easiest route to good results would be to swap the head unit (I got an Alpine CDE-113BT) and 5.25 inch component speakers, putting the mid range in the doors (with adaptors - the kit comes with new grilles too, as the stick speakers are an awkward size) and put the tweeters in the dash. I did try 5.25 inch coaxials in the doors and 3.5 inch speakers in the dash, but the 5.25 components give better results. Get a decent set like Focals for good bass. That would be a good cost effective upgrade before you start messing about with amps and subs etc. The head unit was £130 new, and it is iPod compatible and Bluetooth compatible too for using a hands free phone. You can leave the speakers in the rear doors, as they give quite good bass. There are also speakers in the rear pillars in the estate - just disconnect them as they are rubbish. To fit the new head unit you will need to get a Volvo to ISO adaptor top, only about £2 on eBay, and a cubby hole if you are moving from one of the double din units. |
