Default 2001 Ph2 V40 Brake Lights Sticking

Hi Folks,

Had an issue develop on my 2001 V40 in last few days, where the brake lights appear to be 'sticking on' after I've parked the car and switched the ignition off. Had it happen a few times now; usually pressing the brake pedal will reset the microswitch and the lights will go off.

The last two mornings though when I've gone to head out to work, the lights have at some point come back on again and drained the battery. I've made a habit of doing a walk around before locking up and leaving the car to make sure everything is closed and the lights are out, so something is causing the lights to come back on.

I'm guessing it's probably the microswitch at the brake pedal which is causing the problem; has anyone else had this or a similar issue at all? Any hints or tips? I did search the forum quickly but couldn't see any similar threads.

Thanks in advance,

Martin

I haven't come across this before. I suggest you replace the microswitch and hopefully all will be good.

Thanks for the replies gents.

Anyone got any suggestions (other than the local dealership) where I might be able to source a replacement microswitch?

My list of things to fix it slowly getting longer and longer!

A local scrappie, or ebay is your friend. A second hand one should be fine, they are not things that are known to fail, so it looks like bad luck that yours appears to have done.
