Default S60 Owner Going Mad!

Good Day All,

Before I tear what's left of my hair out, I would like some suggestions as to what is causing my dull knocking noise at the N/S/R over small ripply bumps. If I go over bumps evenly its silent, if I hit something on just the Nearside it knocks (I did hit it on one side quite hard by accident a few weeks ago and it stopped! but only lasted a week or so)

It's been to two of my local garages which I know very well and trust 100% who can not find a single thing wrong with it underneath, its all very tight and solid so I am now left with checking the interior.

In between these two visits, I have tried everything I can think of. Emptying the boot, taking the floor out, seats down, seats up, the only possibility is now the parcel shelf but that looks a nightmare to remove.

Its a 2014 S60 R Design if that makes any difference!

You need to get someone to sit in the back whilst you drive around to see if they can locate the noise. Could be the seat base knocking?

Someone has sat in the back and said they can hear it near the C pillar....

How would I go about checking the seat base?

If it's high up in the C pillar it could be a seat belt reel or a harness that has come loose.
Not likely to be seat base if high up especially with someone sitting on it and putting weight on it.

hmm I did think the seat base wouldn't knock if someone was sitting on it....

well they said they could hear it behind their left ear but I did check around that area and drove with the belts fastened but no change

I had a very annoying knock that took months to resolve, turned out to be the rear top strut mount, worth a check of that.
Mine was a v60 and also had a slightly loose tailgate lock that at low speeds knocked.
I spent several months where nothing could be found using the tried and tested method of fixing annoying sounds = turn up the stereo.

The top mount was checked when the car went in a couple of days ok and all was secure... May possibly be the lock on the tailgate but when I pull up on it from the outside when it's shut there is very little play... I could try adjusting the two rubber stoppers I guess

Default Spare wheel loose ?

May be relevant if you have a spare wheel- my XC60 developed a mild thumping in the rear of the car a year ago, which proved to be the wheel not sitting squarely in the well. Ended up fitting a couple of old towels between the well floor and the wheel to close the air gaps before tightening the centre bolt. Knocking disappeared to my great relief - after many hours of searching.

Hilton,

I don't have a spare wheel unfortunately but have taken the toolkit out and the floor already but no change.

Interestingly I did adjust the front passenger seat slightly to see if that would help and it was quieter this morning but might just be coincidence..
