Default DTSC and ABS issues

Volvo XC70 2.4D 2005

Just wondered if anybody has an idea about this problem before I find a code reader to plug into.

When driving into a left hand bend the power is reduced and the orange warning triangle with the slippery road symbol illuminates. Once back on the straight, the power restores to normal. This can cause a problem when joining motorways on a left hand bend as full power is not available. The problem does not occur on right hand bends. When I switch the DTSC off there are no issues.
This power loss occurs on dry roads with steady driving, nowhere near the level of driving that would cause loss of traction.

This issue has started in the last couple of weeks, and during that time I have had two warnings flash up together twice - 'anti skid service required' and ' brake assist service required'. These warnings were accompanied by the ABS light but both times cleared within one day.

Any ideas whether these are all connected to one issue? Thanks in advance.

Cracked or corroded reluctor ring as a favourite if it isn't pulling a permanent warning, but really we can only pull guesses out of thin air. It needs plugging in and/or someone that knows what they are doing looking at it.

I had exactly the same thing. I replaced the ABS sensor on the drivers side which stopped it from happening, but I also discovered that the ABS reluctor ring was split.

I haven’t replaced that yet as the sensor fixed the problem for me.

Thanks for the ideas, I will investigate in the next couple of days and check everything mentioned. ABS sensor sounds like it could be the culprit, probably the easiest to replace too.

+1 on the reluctor ring do them both to avoid 2 visits to the garage as if one has failed the other one will be in similar condition. it can be done by at home if you are good with the spanners

Morning , most likely is the reluctor ring moving away from the sensor . Jack the car up under the suspension arm , grasp tyre top & bottom pulling towards you & away . You are trying to determine if there is any movement in the wheel bearing . If you do find movement , firstly ensure the driveshaft nut or bolt are torqued to the correct values and try again . If you still have movement , you need a replacement bearing assembly . These come complete & bolt to the upright assembly

Same here, anti skid warning on every corner (left hander). Was a cracked abs ring. £9 part off ebay fixed it.

As with everyone else - mine had all the same symptoms as yours and was the reluctor ring. It was a crack that was not easy to see however, so look very closely. See the attached picture.

Really useful info, thank you. I am reasonably handy with the spanners and have watched a couple of YouTube videos in preparation. Will report back with the findings.
