You can buy a key repair kit for the older style key with the yellow and red buttons on it from Volvo for about £7. I always thought it was a cosmetic refurb but maybe there's more to it that that.
Is yours the old style key with the yellow approach light button?

Any idea where I'd get my hands on one without going to a dealer? They are always way up there on costs!

I've got keyless entry and drive and find that the fob does eat batteries but not at the rate that you seem to be going through them mate?

They used to go through at a rate of a battery every month or so. And then, only recently, they started chomping through at one every week almost!

Well. "Upgraded" my key by fitting all the parts included in the key repair kit mentioned above. No change! Bummer!
They battery was changed along with the fob cover, new spring to keep master key in place, etc that come with the key repair kit. Dead in just over 1 week. On the plus side, my key now looks almost new!!

It may be time to bite the bullet and replace the keyfob?
Either that our strap a big external battery on it Did you try to measure current draw from the battery? |

No, haven't done that yet as not sure how to do it. As you say it might just be time to get a new fob. The programming of it is the bit that puts me off as I have read on the forum that it is about £100. Hopefully this is incorrect.

SOLUTION??!!!!!
First of all, let me apologise to all who have contributed and tried to help me with this. It appears I am somewhat lacking in the common sense/intelligence stakes! I recently tried a Duracell 2025 battery instead of the 2032 which I have been using since buying the car. It works perfectly well and does not die on me after a week or so!! It looks like I have been using the WRONG battery all the time I have had the car! I feel I have to defend myself by saying that the 2032, thicker version of the 2025, were the batteries which were in BOTH my keys when I bought the car. I stupidly assumed that these wer correct! So, it looks like the thicker 2032 has been giving a constant connection, thereby shortening the battery life considerably! The 2025 is slimmer and, fingers crossed, has lasted me about 3 weeks so far. Happy, if somewhat embarrassing, ending! Thanks again folks. Let the slagging commence!
