Link rods
Hello,
I've previously posted a message re a noise the front suspension of my car was producing when turning sharpely / over bumps etc. It was said it would probably be the link rods .... is there any way of checking further that this is the culprit (850 with 108k) ? Also is this the technical name because it's not listed as such in the haynes bible. I've had a luck under the car and suspect the part in question is about 8-10 inches long and seems to attatch the front wheels ? How difficult is it to replace these ie. is there any difficult bushes etc to be changed ? Cheers for the help. (The wife isn't to keen on this noise so it's time I got it sorted ....) |

RE: Link rods
Hi ya,
What you have identified is the link-rods and this is the correct name for them. They are fairly easy to remove and attach with a good socket set, but harder with a spanner set as i found i my first change. In the haynes manual if you find the section on the Anti-Rollbar you will see the link rods. They are also mentioned in the removal of the fronts sturts. By the way you ae luckly they have lasted this long, the ballbearing goes rough, in mine it was a square shape and clicked something rotten the first time i changed. I now exchange the regulary as they are a fair cheap item. They are avail either from Volvo or Europarts. mark.

RE: Link rods
Did mine a couple of weeks back, I got both wheels of ground to ensure no pressure on anti-roll bar, and what a doddle of a job it was!! Now thats the sort of servicing money I like to save!!
Ian PS Volvo £40 something, Eurocar £10 - upon inspection identical as far as I could tell.. |
