Default Instrument lights dimmer faulty

The instrument light dimmer in my V60 D3 is experiencing an intermittant fault. At random, for no reason I can discern, the lights on the dashboard will dim to a point of near invisibility, and just as randomly wil restore to full brightness.
When they restore, the adjustment wheel becomes ineffective for a short time and then allows manual dimming.

Has anyone else experienced this fault and what remedy would be recommended?
Any and all help would be appreciated

Have you got anything on the dash top that could be covering the light sensor, a screen cloth etc.

Can you get the dimmer switch checked or even replaced? Sometimes these things can be quite individual and need a process of elimination.

these are computer controlled so there could be a logical reason such as light levels near the critical switch over point .. although the threshold would be heavily damped to prevent this . worth a thought ..

Keep the setting up to the max, should only work at night or in dark areas, if when it comes on the switch is down low the dash will go dark.

I thought of that and have been careful not to obscure the sensor, thanks for your comment.

There was a thread a little while ago where someone felt their dimmer was faulty as it appeared not to work and to my surprise at the time mine appeared not to either but someone pointed out it only worked under certain circumstances (although cannot recall what they were) and when i tried mine under those circumstances it worked.
Sending this in hope whoever came up with the parameters may see it and be able to re-enlighten us all.

Just been out to my MY22 XC90 in my garage so semi dark, just opened the garage door allowing in some light (no window). Ignition is off but car unlocked and door opened. Dashboard lights come on and can be dimmed using the dimmer wheel control.
Not sure if yours does same David1544?
