K jet 1989 740
Recently got myself a 1989 740 and soon found out it had a k jet engine which seems to be different to a lot that I've seen and was just wondering if there is anything I should keep an eye on? In addition anything to update and replace ?
Thanks |

If you get emissions issues at the mot, you can play with the tiny adjustment screw on the top of the fuel metering unit.
There's a hall sensor on the distributor plate which is a tricky thing to replace. (It's not really designed to be replaced) Getting hold of a used one is challenging. Keep an eye out for decent used distributor plates, I'd say. |

Presume B230E like my 1989 240 GLT B230E.
If so no engine issues at all in the 10 years and added on 72,000 miles. Sold at 234,000. Just basic servicing and all good. James |

Also just to clarify, is it a K-Jetronic or KE-Jetronic? The difference being the latter has a Lambda sensor, cat and "Lambda Sond" badge on the front. If it is the latter then it is slightly more complicated but usually reliable. The CO should be adjusted to 1% +1%/-0.5% as per Pg18 (by doc viewer) of : http://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_...DataPocket.pdf Other than that, usual things apply, regular oil/filter changes (use genuine Volvo oil filter and good 10W40 semi-synthetic oil), check your air filter and set the plugs (NGK BPR6E) to 0.65-0.7mm. If you need HT leads, hunt down Bougicord leads. Good luck with it, sounds like you have agood car there.
