1972 p1800 price estimate - need help
Dear Folks,
I am completely new to this Volvo forum...and I need your help and experience in my p1800 project...i have a relative in Canada who owns this beautiful yellow p1800, 1972, automatic, with A/C...its a completely original car which belonged to one of the first Volvo dealers in Canada. no minor or major changes, first paint, no rust, etc...it runs great...it had been owned by this family since day 1. The car will be shipped to Europe/Hungary during the summer and I have a chance to buy it and keep it as a weekend, oldtimer car. I have only very basic idea about the value of this car (mobile.de, ebay, etc) and I know the price I am asked to pay...I would like to have your opinion about this car and about the approximate value for such a car if offered for sale on the market. Please check the photos - its truly amazing in how good shape this beast is!!! i have not seen it live, just the photos...so what do you think would be a reasonable price for it? thank you so much for your feedback in advance... cheers, andy Last edited by vikingbudapest; Jun 16th, 2014 at 20:46. |

hi ya
thats a nice looking car and honest looking aswell so price this is tough and i may be off the mark here but i would say as its a LHD car and auto which is not so desirable i would say its knocking around the £7.500 - upwards mark but i would say a ceiling price of around £10,000 due to its good condtion solid that is , if confirmed once seen in flesh i would defo not like to pay any more than that BUt -- > if it was RHD and a P1800S manual then the world is your oyster wish i could help more is a pretty car no doubt about that i like the warm colour also keep us posted kind regards robert

Thanks Robert! Actually LHD is not a problem for me on the other side of the channel.. ;-) manual with overdrive would be much better, true..but this one is automatic-is this something i need to be worried of? Your ceiling price is actually less than what the owner is asking for.. Hmmm. Would you guys go for it? The history of this car is fully transparent though... Thanks so much, Andy

P1800
The value is country dependant. In th UK it would be worth £12000,if it was right hand drive it would over £20000, in Holland it will fetch much more.
I dont like to see number plates hidden. WHY? What have they got to hide? Something hidden, what else is hidden? The Old Volvo Man |

I presume the car is now in Hungary based on those pics?
No way is that a Canadian dwelling! |

Thank you all for your comments. The car is still in Canada and even though that lovely house is not typically of Canadian style, it is in Canada :-)
I have photoshopped out the plate numbers, simply because its not my car... Nothing to hide... I am a proud owner of an XC60 but I am very far from being a Volvo p1800 expert..I am just trying to find out what the real value of this car would be in a LHD country - I recon this forum is perhaps not the best place to find out pricing on an LHD car :-) but I really appreciate all your feedback. I would like to understand if I am about to make a good/reasonable/bad deal with the price I am asked to pay which is a bit more than Ł 12.000...but in an LHD country. Can you guys help me out with any English speaking p1800 forum in Europe where I could perhaps gather more info? i have tried the Swedish forum, but did not find any English threads or menu. All your help is much appreciated! Andy Last edited by vikingbudapest; Jun 17th, 2014 at 19:07. |

I reckon 12K (Euros or GBP) is a good price for this car. Even in LHD form it would realise more than this on the continent. As Tony says in Holland you could sell it easily for perhaps 20-30% more Nice colour too, the later yellow suits the Coupe well. Factor in taxes, shipping and fuel costs and you may be paying 15-16K which is still a good price. Nice find and a rare car in Hungary I would say. What are the restoration costs in Hungary? I know Poland is a very good place to take your car. Wondered if Hungary had the same advantages? Useful to know when you have a Classic! Russ |

For restoration costs in the uk we normally pay between £30-50/hr
