Default Power Steering Pressure Line Design

I am getting prepped to replace my power steering line on my 2010 XC60 T6, and the high pressure line has a weird layout. I'm sure there is a valid reason, but can someone please explain to me why I could not just run almost a straight line down from the pump into the port, why does it need to run down, left, U-turn back around to the right, back to the rear and then around back into the port. This seems really excessive. What is the reason for this? The attached image indicates the current high pressure line the car uses.

That is a kind of oil cooler to keep the power steering oil cool. the old XC 90 had a loop of pipe down in front the radiator.
