£8,400 sealed the deal, and to my mind that is an absolute bargain for what I believe is one of only 7 or 8 in the world that were tourers.

We have seen this before, haven't we? I remember the lack of complete interior. The missing/removed water jacket side plate is a bit worrying. I must admit, when completed and properly sorted it will be a cute little sweetie.

I think that it is much more likely to have been changed, as you suggest, in the past. There could be many reasons for this - sun, dog or child damage come immediately to mind. If so, at least they had the sense to fit the complete interior.

Our second 145, a DL, had had had the vinyl front seats replaced with leather from a GL at some point. Fortunately they were both black in a red car, so, although they looked a little odd, they were not visually offensive. I understood from the vendor that, being vinyl, it was down to sun damage, so I think that this is the more likely reason for them being changed on the car in question.

Regards, John.
I think you are right about the interior having been changed John; my suggestion that the factory using up surplus blue seats in a grey car was tongue in cheek.

Alan

Although’87, this is only four speed, my ‘83/4 saloon was five. I’ve seen one or two four speed ones later than you’d think.🤔
The B230K cars are only 4 speed and come with a 3.31 diff

Is that a rhetorical question Steve, or are you seriously interested? If so, and I was in the market, I would say 'yes'. You could, if you were lucky, quite possibly score it for little more than scrap value (£300, maybe?).

Many see them as gas-guzzling dinosaurs and are not interested in these fine cars. At £500 it would be a bargain, but I would set a limit of, say, a grand to stop my enthusiasm running away with me! Believe me, they are a lovely drive! This one has an MOT until well into next year, so is presumably not a total wreck.

Look at my V70. Rewind to 2016; it was on offer at a dealer's at £695, presumably bought at auction for ???. When he demurred regarding the relatively short MOT (4-5 months) he offered it to me as a trade sale for £550. We shook on that and all it needed for the MOT was a small weld and attention to the handbrake. 8 years and 18K miles later, I am still running it with no other expense than routine replacements and servicing.

Incidentally, my EML comes and goes, and my CL doesn't work on the fob - I just live with those. My garage advise that the EML is due to a borderline sensor and is not a major issue.

So, in summary, based on my experience, I would say that it is definitely worth a risk. Don't forget, people who buy expensive new cars tend to look after them better and for longer than the average Corsa or Fiesta owner.

Regards, John.

Hi John,

Well to be honest, I’m in two minds about it

I don’t ’need’ another motor, but the missus is getting a bit fed up running around in a 1/4 million+ miler 945 that is, let’s just say, a cosmetically challenged van !!

Since joining here, I’ve seen that there have been many, many, posts about the joys of 960 ownership, and I must admit to being partial to 6 cylinders.

As it’s only up t’road for me, I may just see if I can view, depending on ‘other stuff’ so will play it by ear.

Cheers

A very valid point, but then again, that’s what I was paying with my old Audi A6 …… Food for thought

As I've said before, tax is what it is. Both the V70 and Linda's 3.0 Saab 9000 reside in that bracket, while our newer, smaller engined (2.0) Saab convertible is £710, which makes the former appear something of a bargain! I received the reminder for the 'vert in yesterday's post - c'est la vie!

Regards, John.

Wouldn't have thought so.

It's a 1996 car so (unless there's been a recent change i'm unaware of) should be subject to the pre-2001 VED architecture, under 1549cc and over 1549cc - even my Jag scrapes into that.

In other words, won't cost any more to tax than a 940 of similar vintage.

My apologies, I've just rechecked and the V70 and L's Saab are £345 per annum, not £415. One should be grateful for small mercies! J.
