Seeking advise on checking my new V40
Hello, having recently purchased a 2015 (65 plate) V40 D4 R design, I am starting to notice some alarming factors regarding the originality of the car I purchased against the documents.
My biggest concern of recent examination is has the engine been removed and replaced? Things I can say right now with 100% certainly are The bonnet has been removed at some point. The front bumper has been removed at some point The car is showing very low miles at only 54000, all history I have paid £24 to check car and the history comes up clean, vin numbers match on the chassis and on a sticker on the cam belt cover, but I can help but think how easy it would be to change that sticker, or the cover so am wondering if that is a legit place to have the vin and engine number displayed on the engine. Also the cam belt cover seems very poorly fitted, the sticker is half peeling off and I can pull it to one side and see the belt underneath without using any tools, having only to remove the top engine cover as shown in the pictures i,m about to post. My main question, is it normal for this cover to be loose fitted in this way? |

Hiya,
Yes its normal for the cover to be like that. When the cambelt is done (90k or 10 years), if done at a dealer a little washer should be ordered at the same time which goes over the front belt dover screw, and pushes that bit in further On later versions of that engine there is a small T30 screw put there to stop that. Engine number would be a sticker on the belt cover, which you can't remove without damaging it. Aways a possibility the engine has been out, car is nearly 10 years old so anything could've happened. A way to try check is inspect the mounting screws for the left and right mounts, there should be no 'ghost' marks from a socket being put on, however again this isn't concrete proof. Hope this helps! |
