After a thorough service and replacing all maintenence items:

Level 1 includes my chips, 3" decatted exhaust, M cam, and 13psi gives around 220hp and 320nm. This is good enough to be quicker than an 850 T5m 30-50 (2.1 vs 2.6), 30-70 (6.7 vs 7.0), and 30-80 (9.0 vs 9.3), according to dragy/vbox data.

Stage 2 requires the previous mods, plus an intercooler (a decent one, not an ebay special), a camshaft with more lift and duration like a V cam, and 15psi. The stock intercooler particularly is quite a big limitation, so changing that allows the last few hp from the stock turbo, 240hp and 340nm.

Phase 3 requires the previous mods, plus injectors and changing the stock 13c turbo for a 15g, this will then allow mapping to 265hp and 360nm.

Tier 4 requires the previous mods, plus a 3" maf and changing the 15g to a 19t, which would allow mapping to 300hp and 390nm.

Yeah, it's a ridiculously simple system really, unlike an aftermarket EMS where you can change everything.
Thanks for the info pal.
Im just about to upgrade mine with a 15G, 2 1/2 exhaust and a 3" MAF. Guess i need an intercooler too. Its already running R injectors and a IPD high cam and 5 degrees advanced cam timing :-)

I was just guessing with that list! Although I would be disappointed if I didn't make 260bhp on a 15g/16t with full bolt-ons.

It's why I always encourage people to make their own chips because then you know exactly what's happening. A chip programmer is about £20-50. A pack of 14 OTP chips from Farnell UK are readily available and quite cheap (~£4 each).

The original chips can even be erased by a UV light and rewritten. They are TI SMJ27c256-20JT 200ns EPROMs with a quartz window under the sticker.

There are also old 27c256 chips on ebay. AMD AM27C256, ST M27C256B, or TI TMS27C256. Lots of cheap chinese knockoffs about, particularly the ST ones which have been obsolete for a few years. Maybe they're ok?

Winbond W27E257 EEPROMs are another option, they can be erased via the chip programmer.

My chips aren't perfect, still runs a bit too rich up top and I might take out a couple of degrees timing out around 3000. The most time consuming part is fitting the chips, kind of a pain digging them out just to test a new chip. Think I'm going to look into making extension cables for them.

Firstly, thanks for encouraging me to take the dive!

I've decided to take the plunge and see if I can improve on what are some fairly good chips as whilst decent enough, I'm sure there is a little room for setting them up for my specific mod list. I've an ok understanding of the principles but nothing like first hand experience.

I now have a T48 programmer and I've downloaded some files off the google drive in another thread you posted in ( https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=331084 ) for reference and have copied my chips as a reference also. Using the examples in the above thread, I can see the tables and details when loading the correct BIN and XDF as per your screenshot.

When copying my chips, I see only null values on the fuel table in TunerPro. Yet the chips run the car just fine. The copy process reports as just fine on the T48 Software and beeps so say all ok. I can see the data there and not just the "FF" values shown when it starts up.

What am I missing here? All I did was copy the chips. Do I need to tell it to start or end the copy at a specific point?

With the fuel chip, they probably used a 954/962/967 bin file as a starting point, and they use different xdf files. You may have been sold a chip for your 984 ecu for example so have selected the 984 xdf? Try 'Volvo 954_962 Mrjaybeeze v52.xdf' as that seems to be what most people use.

Same when looking at an ezk bin. There's either 'EZK 219_207_175_147 Basic A.xdf' or 'EZK 208_177_169_146_140 Basic B.xdf'.

When reading/writing chips, I left all the settings alone.

Hi Pal.
You don't have a Phase 2 fuel Bin I could have as a solid starting point for my upgraded 240 I'm on with. You helped me with the chips its currently on but I would love a solid starting phase 3 from you if possible.

Thanks Gary

Not got one so your guess would be as good as mine. I'd say the fuelling can be perfected within 3-5 tries though.
