Default Jensen Front Grille refurb

Hi All
I want to improve the grille on my Jensen P1800 - its the eggbox type.

What was the original finish on these - Mine is looking tatty and I want to tidy it up - but not sure what the original finish would have been - looks like it could have just been the alloy finish .

Ive tried compound and a buffer but its too potted .

I could use wet and dry and take it back to fresh metal - but not sure what to seal it with when thats done.

Anyone else tackled this job and can advise ?

Thanks

If its pitted looks like Aluminium - I have used wire wool to get the top mess off then Crome polish to get it looking good - agree you could use wet and dry also.

It's not really practical to hand polish inside all those little box sections unless you have loads and loads of time and patience. These early grills respond well to powder coating. Choose a company with a good selection of finishes and you can get the polished aluminium look (but not too shiny) which is what they were originally.

The grille comes apart like a Lego kit for easier polishing to then reassemble it 😎👍

I'm not saying it isn't doable but I've had a couple of goes in the past and never managed it without causing damage, so given up - that alloy is too soft in my experience.
