Default C30 2.0 diesel, soot issue

Hi all. I have a new to me 2010 2.0 diesel C30. Drives fine, turbo seems to spool up well and it's performing nicely. No visible soot or smoke in the mirror when driving gently, but I get a relatively short burst of black soot in the higher gears when I put my foot down from low revs. I can get it to do it in 3rd, 4th and 5th every time from 1.8k or so accelerating firmly. Car was filthy when I got it but put that down to it doing a lot of miles commuting with the previous owner, but now I see the diesel soot has been building up over a while.

No visible issues with boost pipes or vacuum lines. PCV membrane is good. I did the glove test and it didn't inflate the glove on idle, although it was blowing gently into glove, but engine sucks glove in when revving so I don't think that's an issue?

Final point is the previous owner fitted a new diesel pump himself and I'm thinking does it need some kind of calibration? Could it be over fuelling possibly?

Any other possible causes welcome. Euro 4 so no DPF.

Thanks for the advice. Did.both tonight. Egr moved freely and wasn't too badly gunked up but still cleaned out. Sensors cleaned too and it still did the same on the way home. Thinking it could have a dodgy map on it perhaps

do you have vida? you could read the live data to see if the egr is working correctly and check the adaptations look for any leaks in the intercooler and its relavent pipe work. is your air filter clean?

I've had someone with diagnostic stuff look at the live data with afr, boost pressure etc. He said it all looked good. He has facilities to do remote mapping etc with a company so I'll try and get him to see if its got a bad map on it.
