Anti skid service required (under acceleration)
Hi
2008 Volvo C30 1.6D with 108,000 miles. Wondering if you'd be able to help diagnose my issue. "Anti skid service required" light comes on, when I accelerate hard and pass roughly 3000rpm. Light disappears after restart. History: Jan 2017 - bought car 2018 - anti skid light appears. Camshaft position sensor replaced. Fixed. April 2021 - car seemed to cut out for a split second on motorway. Code came back as camshaft position sensor, so replaced again. No issue. May 2021 - rear break calipers replaced. July 2021 - anti skid light appears (around 1000 miles after caliper replacement. Remains permanently on (codes P0341 - Camshaft sensor, P0069 - Manifold Absolute Pressure, P1402). Turbo pressure sensor replaced. July 2021 - light returns intermittently (often when accelerating hard, up to around 3000rpm). Recent codes: P0341 - Camshaft sensor, P0238 - Turbo Boost Sensor, P2459 - DPF tegeneration frequency, P1402. Following research, I've heard the Turbo Control Valve can fail, allowing pressure in the turbo to be too high. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks, JP |

ABS reluctor ring.
As a rough rule of thumb, if the fault/light ismoermanent its electrical. If it's intermittent its ore likely to be but the system ismfine, but is 'reading' a mechanical issue. It's easy to confirm/eliminate by dropping the wheels and taking a look.

Do these cars have ABS reluctor rings? The rear ABS sensors are built into the rear wheel bearings (as I've just replaced one last month), and there's no sign of a reluctor ring on the front driveshafts or wheel bearings either.
To the OP, what fault code reader are you using, if the anti-skid light comes on then there should be a fault code logged, but you may need VIDA to read it as some cheap code readers only show engine/transmission codes. |

Yes, they have reluctor rings on the driveshafts, P/N 00012106.
A fault will only be logged if its a fault on the electrical side of the ABS. Any transitory readings will reset when the ignition goes off if it's a mechanical issue, and may even reset whike driving if the fault doesn't reappear for long enough. That being the case you jeed to plug in and go for a drive and read the fault while the light is actually illuminated. Just a thought. Check your front tyres aren't underinflated. If they're low it can cause enough rotational discrepancies to cause problems. I very much doubt it is that as you'd need to be pretty ham fisted not to feel it while driving, but it's a simple, zero-cost check.

Strangely, the last few weeks, the reset only seems to happen with a restart. Regarding the tyres, they are fine, but thanks for the tip! |

Here is the link to the Turbo Control Valve issue that sounds simllar to mine.
https://youtu.be/w3ETt3qVxME Another strange thing that probably isn't linked. My horn has recently stopped working ocassionally. (Twice in the last month). |
