Lightbulb XC70 Headlamp Lens

Hi guys!

I'm new to volvoforums.org.uk (new to forums in general, actually!) and I have to say this looks to be an absolutely amazing resource! I'm keen to learn!

I'm wondering if anyone knows (please forgive me if I'm asking this question in the wrong place) if it is possible to change the plastic lens on the bi-xenon headlight cluster of a 2013 XC70? They seem to be prone (at least on my car) to very slight condensation on the inside of the lens, and I've noticed that the bottoms of the lenses are cracking very slightly, and I'm thinking that these cracks could well be the cause of the condensation. I called the parts dept. at my local dealer today (Clive Brook Huddersfield) and they seem to think the cluster is a sealed unit, and the best part of £1k each to replace! I've had the unit out today to replace the xenon bulbs, and as far as I can gather after very basic investigation, the plastic lenses look like they can be unclipped.

Thanks!

Jay

Welcome.

A small amount of condensation is perfectly normal, especially in this time of year. When the unit is on it gets hot internally and has to release the small amount of built up pressure, so they are not fuly sealed. I think the outer lens can come off but they are not made to come off as far as I am aware.

Unless they are physically damaged and leaking, leave them alone. Polish the the scores and scuffs off with an appropriate very fine polish.
