...but rather overwhelmed with the response to my query! Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the subject.

I will take some hints from the suggestions here. I guess super-unleaded is back on my weekly shopping list, for a start.

I have to admit my mpg has actually edged upwards of the 27 mark when I'm not driving hard, (and over 30 when I'm being especially careful on the motorway). I actually had no idea that the ECU adapted itself to your driving style! how shameful. I'll try driving with a heavier right foot for a bit and see how that does me.

Can anyone please suggest how much of a mission it is for a garage to check the boost pressure on my baby? I've no clue, so if I was told "it'll be a six-hour job, mate", I wouldn't be able to argue.

And when I get some more cash, I'll try some of the mods suggested. I imagine that'll wallop my insurance premium severely though, so it could be a while (it was hard enough to get insured in the first place - 23-year old male, with no No Claims!)

Any further thoughts - keep 'em coming!

Thanks again,

Alastair

Hi Alistair,

i'm surprised you got an insurance company to cover you, i had a job at 23 with FULL no claims on my T-5.

Hi Alastair,

Checking the boost pressure takes 5 minutes - there is a spare outlet on the "tree" on the throttle assembley and you just push a pipe on and put a guage on the end and drive around a bit......

If your getting 30 MPG then your running on the economy rather than performance side.

My T5r by comparison does 24MPG if I'm really nice to it, but averages at 19. Hard driving on a track day it does 7MPG.

I'm 28, with all the mods listed at www.t5r.org and the car costs me £900 fully comp (including cover for the mods) with 1 SP50 and 7 years no claims.

Hope that info helps

Phil :)

£900 fully comp WITH 7 years no calims?
Jeez we pay less than £800 on our T5-R with no no claims bonus (as you cant use your no claims bonus on a second car)
Id recomend giving AON a call an discussing your needs as they will tailor a policy for you!!!!

You can use your no claims bonus on a second car.

I have four cars registered under my name. The last one a V70R AWD has 5yrs no claims and I only insured it last September. All I did was ring my insurer told them I have bought another car and they gave me the no claims.

RE: Insurance.... Is yours modded?? All my the mods are covered new for old, which is equivalent to insuring another family car!

Very few companies will touch heavily breathed on cars. I dont know AON so they might, but I doubt they would cover me for £800 with new-for-old cover on all the xtra bits.... :(

Do you have contact details for them? Always happy to get a quote.

Phil :)

A contact number for AON is 01384 455011

Our T5-R is standard but our Misubishi FTO is fairly modded and as long as we were honest and up front with them about the mods it made little difference to the cost!!!
They do like imobilisers fitted though!!
As for the no claims thing, I spoke with several insurance companies and all of them said that I couldnt use my full no claims bonus on more than one car!!
I guess you got lucky!!

As a normal rule, NCD is valid only on one car.

If anybody has it applied to more than one then problems will occur if a claim is made resulting in an NCD loss - because that loss will apply over all the vehicles.

Sounds as though a mistake has been made.
