Nice buy! Volvo used rubber up to MY 1969. My 144 MY 69 has a screen in rubber, my 70 has a bonded screen.

Re-installing the glass is not difficult, and a good opportunity to inspect the steel underneath it.
But try some sealing rubber kit first. NO silicone, never use silicone on cars. I like to use the rubber-tar mix they sell for sealing roof leaks.

One more thing, what's the position on using unleaded petrol on this engine.No 26157. Will it need to be converted and if it has how would I know in the absence of records?

My idea is that lead replacement solutions are not great, it's basically a salt which fouls spark plugs.
Maybe your cilinder head will wear a little quicker, but there are plenty others (thousands lingering about) or you can have hardened seats installed at some point.
Still the head should last 50-100.000 km as it is saturated with lead from the past.

Will post pic's when I can sort out a camera. In the meanwhile The handbook that came with the car gives the specs for the B 18, this car has the B20B fitted. Can somebody please give me the spec's for points, plugs, valve clearences etc. The tick over is a bit lumpy and it needs a good tune up. Also the space in front of wind shield which contains the washer jets,and is fresh air intake, does it have a drainage tube and where? I would like to clear them out if possible. One last thing for now, a good source for pancake air filters,chrome.

Drains out through the sills I think. Pour some water in and you should see it emerge through the drain holes between floor and sill.

And if it doesn't? gulp! Would really like to get in and clear out all the debris.

Remove the trim pieces from the door sills, move over the rubber/carpet and find some big round plastic covers in the door sill. Take them out and remove the debris.
Hose a lot of water through the ventilation and open the drainage holes under the door sill (approx. 6) with something plastic. The sills and space in front of the windscreen is one, just like on the 240 and really helps to keep the inside dry and rustfree.

Done that. Lifted carpets and rubber matting.The floor looks in fairly good nick no welding needed. How to remove driverside mat as it seems to be moulded over gas pedal? Next job to remove door cards but How? I see a problem with the window handles. Don't want to damage anything.
