Hi all,
Our T4 has done the same, the fan was flat out and is now dead. Anyone know where the Resistor unit is hidden before I start poking around? Thanks, Mike |

Interior Fan
I have a 2000 XS with similar fault - the fan fades and then comes back again.
Is this similar? Down to the same fault? |

Heater Blower Problem
I finally got hold of the motor speed controlling transistor and the good news is it was only £23.74 part No 30864189.
The bad news is that most Volvo dealers want to remove the whole dash to get at it and charge several hundred pounds. Haynes & Vadis suggest it can be done with the dash in place so I had a go. The unit sits in the ducting between the fan and the pollen filter but is positioned so that only one screw is visible. The second screw is impossible to reach with a screwdriver. Suggestions include turning this screw with pliars but after trying for an hour this was not going to work for me. The glovebox was removed and I could see that it was the steel glovebox support rail that was in the way. I carefully marked on the plastic where I thought was inline with the axis of the screw and drilled a 13mm hole. The screw was then easily removed through this hole, the next problem was that the transistor unit would not come out past the glovebox rail so 2 cuts with a hacksaw and the bottom lip was bent out of the way. I then exchanged the parts, replaced the screws, bent back the metal and replaced the glovebox etc. I guess that if I was to do it again it would take less than an hour. I hope this is of some use. John

Transistor No 30864189
Hello John
Thanks for the news on the transistor. Could you tell me if the transistor unit for the v40 climate control is easy to buy and where it can be bought. Thanks Terry |

Blower Fan Transistor
Terry
The transistor can be bought from any Volvo Main Dealer and they usually get it next day if not in stock. As I mentioned before part No is 30864189 and cost inc VAT £23.74 but my local dealer Lookers Hadleigh give me 10% discount so I only paid £21.36. John

replacement Transistor did not work V40
hi I have tried the transistor replacement on the climate control of my v40. unfortunately for me it had no affect and the blower motor is still a top wack.
Does anyone have any other suggestion to what the problem on my v40s' climate control is. Could it be the resistors and what part number are they. |

resistor/ transistor
Passanger side foot well remove the cover under the glove box (2 cross point screws) and aproxmatily 8-12" from centre console there will be either a 3 or 4 pin plug into the offending item which is held in by 2 cross point screws hope this helps.

Any update???
I have the same problem. Probably will go for new resistor first. Any idea how much the control panel costs? Cheers Adrian |

Is yours a phase 1 or phase 2 car? That's the first thing to decide whether same problem as above. You can find out more on these sort of problems with a search as well, it is quite a common question about problems with fan speed.
