850 GLT Alarm problem
Hi All, 95 850GLT
I tried this morning using the key fob to unlock thre car and nowt happend ,checked the batts in the remote fob and thet read 2.9v each but I appreciate they will drop on load, I had a spare fob which never has worked with this car (I put it down to it nedded coding in) again the batts in this seem close to 3v each off load, I can hear a slight click from each fob when a button is pressed !. I used the key to open the car which off course set off the alarm, I even tried the process of winding down the drivers window and switching on the ignition 5 time ,leaving it on on the fifth time and pressing within 10 secs a key on each fo, this did not work !. Any one got any other ideas please, I appreciate I have to try NEW batts in the fobs, but I have to go into town in my trusty Deisel Montego and I thought i would check first. Reg |

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
Saturday, I had a small problem (more irritation really) with my remote fob. Started walking away from the car and the remote would not lock the car. Kept on pressing (and it was bleeping) but to no avail. Walked back to the car to the drivers door, pressed and it locked.
Now I may be thinking on the wrong lines, but it was bitterly cold and I thought the temp (with the sun shining on the windscreen) might have an affect on the sensor and what it receives from the fob? The last thing I would want is to buy another fob, £50 to lock doors!!! Cheers Dave |

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
These alarm key-fobs appear to be quite problematic.
Doesn't always appear to be related to the condition of the key-fob batteries.....is it age of the fob perhaps? I've found that several quick stabs on the button (with the fob facing down, towards and close to the car)usually does the trick. I use my car for work, and am fearful of being let down by this problem, so have resorted when not at home to locking with the key only. Not the best course of action I accept, but I figure if theives want the car, from what I've read, they'll take it, alarmed or not. |

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
The batteries in the key fob (if like mine??) are lithium 3 volt, so if they were only reading 2.9v they are a bit flat! 'cos as you say they will drop more on load. In theory the transmitter range should reduce as the batteries approach replacement time, but I have found that they usually go off VERY suddenly, virtually overnight.
The click you will hear is the actual button contact inside, with working batteries you should hear more of a chirping sound when the button is pressed. Having been caught a few times with being unable to open the door without the alarm going off, I now keeep a spare fob hidden inside the car. Now if the normal key/fob wont work I unlock the door setting off the alarm, then once inside I can disarm the alarm with the hidden fob, which of course has no key with it! Batteries seem to last 6-8 months with about 4 to 6 operation per day. If you need one I have a an unused spare fob - 2 button type. LOCK/UNLOCK Pt. No. ST/PC 3471290 half price. it's the wrong type for my car. Jim |

I've never heard any chirp sound from my alarm fob, still using the same batteries that were in when I bought the car at the start of april. Do they all chirp or just later types? Mines a 94

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
Hi,
When you say the two button type (don't know about part codes) is it the one with one button to lock/unlock and the second one a panic button for a 95 850. If so, I'm interested as I only have one that works!! Cheers Dave |

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
Following on from this, how can I test my alarm? I've never managed to get it to go off and am wondering if it actually exists!
I have a '94 855 T5 which has (as far as I can gather) a standard Volvo alarm. The remote has two buttons (one to lock/deadlock (the left one) & one to unlock (the right one)). Occasionally, the remote will not open the doors (typically when cold) so I use the key but the alarm never goes off. Is this correct or is the alarm not functioning? I can't seem to find the alarm unit under the bonnet either, any ideas where it might be? Thanks, Adam '94 850 T5 |

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
I received some new batteries this morning and still no response from the car on either Fob, I can hear from the Fob I never had working a slight chirp, but nothing from the day to day Fob, is it possible the problem lays with the receiver in the car, I had thought of removing the car battery and letting the system reset (I assume the alarm does not have a seperate battery backup ?). A couple of days before this happend I had to operate the day to day Fob a couple of times for the car to respond, does ayone know where the receiver is located on the car ?. The output of the transmitter is so small I dont think it would register on a wavemeter. Reg >Following on from this, how can I test my alarm? RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
Hi Dave
The fob I referred to has two buttons of the same size, marked LOCK on the left and UNLOCK on the right. The other fob mentioned in another post below, has one main button which toggles between lock and unlock, and a smaller one which if held down for a few seconds acts as a panic button and sets off the sounder. The former system I believe only sets the alarm when the lock button is pressed twice within three seconds, which sets the deadlocks AND alarm, otherwise one press only locks the doors. The latter is called a GAII system and always seems to deadlock and set the alarm. If anyone needs a scan of the handbook (alarm section) email me,I'll see what I can do over Xmas! :) If the fob doesn't make a little chirp I think it may be faulty or the batts. are flat. Two CR1220 batts. are reqd. fitted + side UP. If the fob chirps you could try reprogramming the fobs. Jim |

RE: 850 GLT Alarm problem
Dave, I have fitted 2 X Cr1220 batts today but no chirp, and car still sits there with the sulks, the second Fob I have may never have been progged into the alarm system, so catch22 in as much as I need to unlock first before 'enabling' the other 'chirping fob'!!.
