Shock Absorber Recommendation for 1800S
I'm looking for a recommendation for new shock absorbers for my 1967 1800S. I want a smooth, controlled ride. I do not intent to autocross or anything like that. Currently, the ride is quite floaty. Thanks for your recommendations/suggestions.

RE: Shock Absorber Recommendation for 1800S
If you are looking for a bit of improvment on the cheap go for any std gas damper not an oil one. If you want the ultamate in dampers go for a set of SPAX adjustables, you can adjust thes to suite any driving style.
If your ride is very floaty it would suggest the springs are most likely past there best. Do you know if they have ever been replaced? Springs do not last for 30 or more years. Dai |

RE: Shock Absorber Recommendation for 1800S
Hello Dai,
I'm sure these are the orginal springs. However, when I push down on the rear, the right side comes up then a few seconds later comes up a little more like something is restricting it. So, I thought that shocks would be a good place to start. Plus, the car has Gabriels on the front and Monroe on the back. This is another reason to change to one brand. Right now, I'm leaning to Koni based upon feedback that Bilsteins are a bit stiff and mixed messages about the KYB brand. Anyone have experience with Koni's out there: either the red ones or the "Classic' black ones? |
