Come to think of it I have noticed this. I thought it was something to do with the auto gearbox as I have sometimes tried to move off slowly and it has lurched away. I have has this a couple of times when reversing and it is very disconcerting. I think it has been mentioned on the other V40 forum.
Is this Hill Start assist or something like that?

Its the hold assist - for use pulling away on inclines

I find this quite handy... trying to make my missus use it instead of biting the clutch all the time !!

Question Quibles

AS now on second Volvo both have had the light switch located in that position so you cannot see if you have fogs on or what position you have lights in other than that at moment just getting used to new car as have only done 500 miles yet and after the C30 all the bells and whistles in this car have nearly sused out how to play with most of them .
One complaint i thought i had with C30 the crap reception on FM, the V40 also has crap reception on FM, glad the car has DAB as not having to re-tune all the time as before.
