Default 2016 V40 D4 Slave Cylinder Failure

Hi all thought I would let you know about the recent slave cylinder failure on my dads v40 d4 with only 33000 miles on the clock. Problem started one morning a few weeks ago after the clutch pedal decided to stay on the floor so swiftly had it towed to my local garage who confirmed it was the slave cylinder that failed. Anyway car is now fixed and all is well but when I ordered the new clutch kit and slave cylinder from volvo, the new slave cylinder is an updated version as my garage noticed that it was quite different from the previous version and only requires 1 bolt to hold it instead of 2, but a phone call to volvo confirmed it was the correct part for the car and was an updated part so not sure if this is a common issue. Will also include some pics of the updated slave cylinder which is part no 31325023 and the failed one hope this helps anyone with a similar issue 👍

no not common but it can happen occasionally on random S40/V50/C30/C70 versions out there on the road . One cause is overheating when someone cooks the clutch .

I had a July 2016 (2017 MY) XC60 D4 FWD (i.e. same engine and gearbox as your V40) and the CSC failed at 44k, same symptoms as yours but the onset was gradual, had it booked in but it failed completely the day before... all recovered & repaired under warranty.
