Default V40 MY 2013 sat nav update

Hi all

I've owned 4 Volvos over the last 25 years, most recently an XC90 and have been on the XC90 forum for many years. This is my first post here.

I just obtained a 2013 V40 today and need to update the sat nav map. Can anyone tell me if I have the right software to do the USB update (see attached photo).

Secondly if I can do the update with a USB stick, where do I stick it?

You need V30.20.03 released on 2/12/20. This is the last update from Volvo. There will be no more.

To do the update you first need to ensure that you have the latest firmware from a Volvo-dealer. Cost approx £100. This may have been done but probably not as you do not have the latest version of the maps.

Once you have the latest firmware you need to download the latest version of the maps from the Volvo Support website on to a good quality usb stick. I use Skandisc.

Insert the stick in the usb socket in the center armrest and follow the instructions on the screen once you start the car.

Thanks for the info. It does seem premature of Volvo to stop updating so soon. Do they expect the cars to be scrapped after 8 years?

Is there any way to tell if I have the correct firmware? Is that the software version 1100 shown on the screen?

My car shows the software version 12.10 so your needs updating before you can update the sat nav.

Update:
I found an invoice from 2016 that shows the software update has been carried out so I can go ahead and update the map.

I wouldn't worry too much Roads don't change over the years very much at all. . I use a 2007 navigation rarely, but it still does the job .

Sadly, not true. Eg. my XC90 was last updated in 2016 (the latest and final update). It is totally useless for any long journeys as there have been so many new roads and junctions built recently. I need the V40 to be as up to date as possible, as it is my wife's car and she will get lost otherwise!
I dread to think how accurate the European maps are.

Follow up to close the thread:
I downloaded the update onto a 32gB USB stick and stuck it in the slot in the arm rest. The screen message reported 2h39m to complete the update. In the end it took at least four times that. The update would sit at a constant time-remaining for hours. However, eventually it finished and all is well again!
By the way, during the update the Bluetooth would not connect and the CD player would not work. All working again now.
