Unhappy Replacement ETM failed after approx 80k miles

Hi,

About 3 years ago I had the original (white label) ETM on my V70 2.3 T5 (2001MY) replaced by Volvo - at the then lower price of about £300 all in..

It fixed all the problems I had, even though some of the error codes were suggesting throttle pedal position faults.

Now, some 80k miles later, the replacement unit has gone the same way. I had read (on here I think) that the Yellow Label units were probably worse than the orginals....so I am trying to work out the best way forward. Volvo will not entertain any kind of claim or replacement - have checked with the dealer who fitted it.

The codes I am getting (from my PPC unit) are:
ECM 904d
ECM 958f

I can afford to have the car off the road for about a week or maybe longer, so options I see are:

1) Remove unit, send to volvodiagnostic.com for repair (Lukas) - I've checked and he can turn it round within a week.

2) Remove and send to xemodex in the States...may take a bit longer - but is their repair any better ?

3) go back to volvo for another unit.

Any ideas ? or other options I may have missed ?

Many thanks

Jon

Go with your first option as it will be quicker and cheaper than the others, the repaired unit will contain a non contact angle sensor which isn't just a repair it is an upgrade to remove the crap designed part that fails in the Volvo OEM unit - Mike

Go with Lucas, by far the cheapest and the unit will be contactless.

Smile All workin

I managed to refit the ETM this weekend, cleared down the old DTC codes, and fired the engine up.

What a difference it has made - smooth idle, no hunting and I think much better throttle response.

Thanks to Lukas for doing a great job.

Just need to attend to some of the other (lesser) problems now...
