Wanted please: a 240 windscreen trim rubber
Just had the windscreen removed from my 1987 240. It had a crack in it and there was some corrosion behind in the bonding area. The technician who took out the old screen didn't like the look of the trim rubber because it's lost its "rubberyness". Anyone know of a supplier of new replacements other than someone advertising in Australia?

No some 140's and 240's did have a screen fitted with a rubber. I've only ever seen the odd ones. Try brookhouse for one. The better bet long term could be to change to a bonded screen

Windscreen trim rubber for 240 bonded windscreen
Thanks for your suggestions, but you've missed the point, or perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Yes, the 240s had bonded screens, as mine has, but also there is a rubber finishing trim which is fitted after bonding to make the whole thing look tidy. It is this rubber surround trim which I am looking for.

held in by frail plastic clips ,if you find the strip (mines warped as well) i wonder if you can buy the clips to put it back on?
mines been replaced recently and the fitting guy said if he had put it on his van theres a "modern" strip that can fit instead of the volvo version? and its easier to replace the windscreen next time?? Last edited by chesters6; May 21st, 2009 at 15:19. |

Problem solved and new windscreen installed. After many phone calls and unanswered emails to what I thought were other helpful Volvo enthusiasts, National Windscreens solved it. The later screens it seems were modified to do away with all the silly plastic clip capers which, according to the windscreen fitter, tended to puncture the bonding and cause leaks. So these later screens come supplied with ready-attached rubber strip which makes a very neat and problem-free installation into the windscreen socket. For the purist, the only downside is it doesn't have a chrome finished insert in the rubber. I must say I prefer it without - it looks much less fussy. Hope this information will help others with the same predicament. National Windscreens highly recommended.
