Amazon Buying Advice
Hi Everyone!
I've only recently joined the forum - so if this post is in the wrong place, I apologise. Basically, I'm looking to get my grubby mits on an Amazon - a 122S to be precise. The car would be used every single day for my 60-mile commute up to sunny Peterborough. So I need something that's solid and reliable, rather than a project. Aside from the usual grot spots (sills, wheel arches, screen seals, bulkheard corners, wings, headlamp bowels, boot and wheel well) are there any other places that I need to check for the dreaded tinworm? And what parts are expensive to replace? I've had a look at a couple of cars, but I haven't really found anything that suits... so far. If you know of any, can you send 'em my way? ccm.ed@kelseypb.co.uk Thanks for your time - and your help! ... believe me, I've been proofreading the car for sale ads like a maniac in my quest for an Amazon!
Just need to find the right one: I keep turning up either projects or show cars - I need something that's solid and reliable but within my budget. |

At this age you can get problems in the lower A pillars. Also check inner wings and the bottom of the windscreen under the rubber seal (look up from the footwells). They are great cars but everything gets old eventually!
My experience is that none of these are frighteningly expensive. However, the rebuilding of the bottom of the windscreen aperture did stick in my memory (pics buried in the forum somewhere).

If you want a amazon for everyday use them a 131 67-70 models are the ones to goor in my opinion. The 131 has improved rear axle set up, head rests on the seats dual curcuit brakes B20 and a few other minor alterations. The only down side for family use is they are only 2 door. (I've just placed an ad in the offer section for a white 131)
As you will probalby know the majority of amazons will be needing mechanical atension but there is nothing especialy difficult to replace or silly expensive. Cecking for rust is everywhere but 1 area that is often missed is behind the window rubbers. The front screen area is covered by the dash and inner screen surround. If the seller is willing pull the surround off and check teh rubber for buldging due to rust |
