Advice re extended warranty
Hi all - my first post here. Thanks to everyone for all the useful info on this site. I have bought a 65 plate (2016) XC90 Momentum D5. It has come with a 1 year Selekt warranty, however I am debating whether to extend this out another 2 years. Have been quoted around £700 for a 2 year Plan A warranty with MotorEasy. Wondering if (1) anyone with a high mileage XC90 has an opinions of the long term reliability and cost of repairs, and (2) whether anyone has ever used MotoEasy before? Thanks in advance!

Extended warranty
Thanks for your reply ! Actually as I bought the car used, it comes with a 1 year Selekt warranty. I have contacted Volvo UK, but apparently I cannot extend this warranty. This is why I looked at the next best option which appears to be MotorEasy from what I can tell - so basically that takes me through to 6 years altogether, including the 1 year of Volvo Selekt.

I see. You should ask in some wider forums not limited to volvo SPA or even just volvo as the question you are asking is not volvo specific.

I'm not sure I would personally like to own my XC90 without a warranty. Having said that, I think anyone who's been monitoring the forum a few years like me would however agree that most of the common 'teething' issues have been ironed out, and there are not as many issues reported here in the recent year. Indeed my car went in many times in its first 18 months (Sensus updates, power pulse issues, modifications in relation to road noise issues etc), but haven't been in for anything other than routine service in the last 12 months. Software updates are always included as part of a service at a main dealer. :wq

He bought pretty much the oldest car out there bar the first edition with 15 plates. Plus he is talking high mileage. He will most likely be amongst the first to get long term wear related issues on this forum. This forum has very few people like that. He is right to get external warranty - volvo dealers will destroy him with repair costs for xc90 - I made that point in my first reply. As to what is a good external warranty this forum is not very informative and he should look elsewhere.

Overall reliability seems to be okay now after early problems but some of the components/modules on these cars are really expensive to replace.
Personally, I wouldn't own one without some form of comprehensive warranty. I'll certainly extend the warranty on mine next year when the standard one expires.

The 1st Generation XC60 forum has a lot of valuable info such as https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...light=Warranty

1 Year Selekt Warranty? Is that in addition to the balance of the factory warranty? I always thought the original warranty could be extended if you did that before it ran out. I may be wrong. We took a 5 year warranty on ours but that was at the point of ordering. The dealership were keen to push their own franchise 2 year extension but I had to push to have the official Volvo one.
Edit: It says on Volvo's website that you CAN extend the official warranty... Quote:

Thanks all....Actually I bought the car with the official 1 year Selekt used car warranty which is offered via Volvo dealers but I believe administered by a company called Car Care Plan. Apparently they can extend this by one additional year for £595 - or I could buy two additional years from another company like MotorEasy (or others) for around £700. I don't believe the Volvo Selekt one covers all the same items as the manufacturer 3 year one - e.g. internal/external trims etc. The problem with the non-Volvo endorsed extended warranty providers is that it is hard to know what they are like till it actually comes to claiming on them. Also with the XC90s generally just coming out of warranty, it is hard to know whether they will stand up to the test of time. I can imagine replacing a few simple components could easily add up to more than £700.... |
