Default 2.0 D3 - Engine pull dies after 3,000 revs

Hi everyone

Just trying to figure out if this is normal or if I have a problem brewing.....

Owned my XC60 D3 for nearly 2 years and its a great car. When you pull away it has good power and pulls well all the way to 3,000 revs, then it just dies, no more pull past 3,000 revs at all.... flat as.... no other symptoms at all.

Is that normal?? It doesn't bother me at all but wondering if there might be a problem I should be dealing with, like turbo??

I test drove a V40 D4 the other day and it pulled all they way, which is what made me think

Thanks for any pointers

Could be a boost leak.

Check the pipes around the turbo for any splits. Also check the pipes around the intercooler.

What year is the car? If you have a 5-cylinder engine then the fault is likely to be the catalyst or DPF temperature sensor. On some models this puts the car into a hidden limp mode with a 3k rpm limit but no dash lights or warnings.

Needs to be plugged in to VIDA or other Volvo compatible gear to tell (generic code readers are likely to give you a misleading message such as temp sensor bank "A").

you could also check with a multimeter, usually they fail open circuit. R should be something like a few hundred ohms.

Part costs circa £100 (if it does turn out to be that).

For D5204T2 engine this is completely normal, for D5204T3 is not.

4T3 engine flats out after 3500RPM, 4T2 flats out after 3000RPM.

My V60 D3 is the same, they all are.

Mines a 04T3 so above 3500 its dead, it will rev still but very slowly, small Turbo restricts these engine unfortunately.
