It has aurigas that are spot on and every extra possible, does that add much to it? Working cruise control

Not contradicting myself in saying that it probably isn't an issue but it's not without it's risks.

Can't comment on values, but my brother has an LPT auto on about 290k miles and one previous owner.
It still drives lovely, but does feel a bit more run-in than my 170k D24T 740 They're robust and capable of the miles if not abused. |

High mileage?
I would not consider 280K miles high mileage for a Volvo redblock. I have my LPT since 110K miles, covered 315K miles since and it is now on 425K. I increased the turbo pressure to HPT level, which has proven not to be a problem, as it is still on its original turbo.
I thought I had quite a mileage until I met Bert a few years ago, the guy in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD4S9O-p3Hw&t=51s In Dutch, but you can set the subtitles to an english translation. If you like the car the mileage don't let the mileage stop you. I do not know about prices in the UK, but here in the Netherlands they are only going up and you will not find a decent 940 for less than 2000 Euro. Go for it... Rob |

Haha - I have a LPT (not HPT) and have always fancied the diesel. The grass is always greener.
If it were me I'd be looking at the poorer fuel economy combined with the rising fuel prices and stick for the time being. If your current car has no issues then perhaps it better keeping the devil you know? You might be stuck with a higher fuel bill and more issues to fix - ultimately up to you though Last edited by haymitch; Oct 26th, 2021 at 17:04. |

Diesels are not nippy enough for me unless you turn it into a smoker, but similar bhp to lpt i guess
Regardless of fuel i prefer a petrol all day really

As far as price is concerned it depends what has been done in the way of maintenance. If, for example, it has had a recent exhaust, genuine replacement Nivomats, water pump, belts, tyres, etc. then £1.5k is a bargain. If all these items have only got a few months use left in them then it is not.
Although prices are generally on the up a lot of cars of this vintage are being moved on in the South East because of the road pricing regime in London. Many of these subsequently end up for sale at inflated prices by provincial traders. If you manage to get one further down the food chain you can get a bargain. |

I have a 1996 940 LPT auto estate.
Mine has now done 206,000. Runs well but showing it's age suspension wise. Cooling system has all been replaced, in tank fuel pump, all service items replaced. Due another cambelt. 280k wouldn't bother me so long as it drives very well and has been not run on a budget. Good quality tyres etc. Lots of new parts like exhaust, cooling system etc. I remember viewing a dog of a 940 for £1500 5 years ago. Advertised as "Immaculate" It wasn't, failed to mention filthy with HG coolant leaking down block and coolant brown with rust! Must of used pictures, years back! Should of known as said where car was and car open and keys are in it! James. Last edited by volvo always; Oct 26th, 2021 at 21:06. |
