Washer fluid check/change

Winter is coming.

Now that the cat is out of the bag, I am not sure if I have put summer washer fluid in or if I still have winter one. I do not want to mix the winter one in because I couldn't tell what dilution there is and how freezing resistant it is.

A few winters ago I took a long piece of tubing, pushed it in the washer liquid tank all the way down (it is quite a long way) and I sucked the summer liquid out, then refilled with winter one. I do not want to do that again (except if there isn't any other way).

My 1st guess would be that I have left the winter fluid in all-year-round because it can't do harm. But then I've learned that summer liquid contains stuff that cleans bugs much MUCH better and that the winter stuff doesn't even have those chemicals because there are no bugs in winter. Which makes sense. So again I am not sure which route I took.

Based on your location, buy whatever Lidl or aldi is selling as they will have the right temp range stuff .I would not worry about the rest as there is not hundreds of litres in the tank...I can do a tank of screen wash in a week , so cannot see a issue with mixing etc

Or be a real devil, full the stick till no more water comes out, that takes no time at all and no special tools required, it’s not expensive, so why go to the trouble.

Based on the OP's location I can see why there's a concern. However why not just top up each time with winter fluid before the temps drop too much & then by the time it's really cold you'll have a good strength solution in the tank.

Or..... buy the Volvo fluid year round & mix to the winter strength.

Personally I use so much fluid running up & down the A1 I buy readymixed from Aldi/Lidl Summer or winter mix as appropriate.
