Default Maintenance Deal

Hello,

I’m being offered a full maintenance deal, so incl all servicing and consumables (tyres, fluids etc) at £50 per month. Car is an a R-Design Pro B5D and I’ll be running it for 4 years and 10k miles per annum, so presuming the tyres (on 22”s) will need replacing just the once. This works out at £2.4K over the term.

Does this represent value for money? This’ll be my 1st Volvo so I’ve no idea on servicing/maintenance costs although I am aware I can currently buy a 3 year service only package for £599.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

At £2.4k over 4 years, it seems a little steep unless you end up going through alot of tyres, brake pads and discs but the likelihood of that is pretty slim.
The Volvo service packs are pretty good value, I managed to get a 5 year service pack on my XC60 T8 for £699 but be aware, these packs only include the basic service items, thinks like 2 yearly brake fluid and A/C service are all extra.

You pays your money, you takes your chance...............

My initial thinking was that this was a bit steep.

However...the first four services will cost (very roughly) £1500 at dealer prices and a set of decent 22" tyres could easily cost £800+ so that's c£2300 before considering items such as brake discs and pads which you will probably need. A set of rear brake pads fitted at a dealer costs around £200...

Suddenly £2.4k over four years starts to look a little more attractive.

If you don't go for the full maintenance deal I would definitely take the servicing deal - it will save you c.£500.

Check the terms on tyre replacement too - they may not be to your liking e.g. a wear limit which is below your preferred change point, puncture / damage exclusions, and that replacement is like for like premium brands.

This.

I'd check what the thread depths are. Waiting for it to get to 1.6mm in the winter wouldn't be happy for me. I'd also ask what tyres they put on, i.e. are they like for like or will you go from the premium brand the OEM fits to another brand that could drive differently.

Thanks all. I hadn’t considered the potential tyre thread depths issue. Think I’ll give it a miss.

Will see if my dealer is prepared to throw in the service pack FOC to sweeten the deal!

Where does your 50 quid go? To a dealer? What happens if they go bust?

There was a thread on here a while ago about a service deal with a dealer that then sold or transferred the dealership to a third party without completing the final service that had been paid for and the new company would not honor the agreement.

Better to stick with the Volvo service plan.
