Default Few Qs on a new purchase

Hello

I've just bought a V70 2.5T, registered August 1998 (has the blue grill badge, so I think that means it has the fly by wire throttle).

I've just a few Qs:

- the service light is lit on the dashboard, how do a I clear that?

- the boot lid doesn't like to stay up. I thought it might have had boot struts, but doesn't. Is there anything I can do so make it stay up?

- it needs an oil/filter change asap. Will the filter be the metal spin on? Eurocarparts shows the paper filter, but I assume they wrong?

- I've been using Castrol 10/40 semi oil on my S70, is that okay for the turbo engine?

cheers all

Do you mean the service light is on all the time or goes off after a few minutes...this is what mine does and I think it's normal.
The struts for the tailgate are hidded behind the roof/side trim
Screw on oil filter...ECP may be wrong...
Oil should meet ACEA A3 for turbo engines...

Having said all that, I stand to be corrected if I've got it wrong !!

Mine a 1999 is a non screw-on filter. Paper-element thing. Run fully synth, less can clog the PCV if you don't intend to 'drive' it. Go to the FAQ for most stuff, there's more pressing things to look for. The rest has been covered many times. A keyboard should sort it.

thanks both

I think the service light does go off after a while, so that is normal?

I've had a quick look under the car, and I can see I have a plastic filter housing, so I will have a paper element oil filter. I think I need a special tool that shaped to fit on the housing, I won't be able to use my chain or 4 legged tool?

A 'cup'-type removal tool should really be used - attempts with a chain or 'claw' tool are likely to lead to damage.

Pressed-steel removal tools are readily available on Ebay, though their fit can be a bit sloppy. There are more expensive cast alloy versions, which tend to fit better.

Quite often, the plastic housing gets damaged by inappropriate removal methods, such that even the correct tool won't work well

The service light should be reset every year when a service has been done, if it isn't reset it will stay on after start up for a couple of minutes

You're one of the lucky ones, this link will show you how to reset the service light CLICK

Correct, if the service light has been reset properly, it won't come on at all when the engine is running, if it does come on and then goes out that means it's thinking that you need a service so probably needs resetting.

thanks all, I know how to clear the service light now

On the oil filter housing, I think I need a tool. Is it an 88mm 16 sided one?
