Default Agreed Value insurance

My current car insurance policy is on market value terms - as the value of 850Rs seems to be rocketing, I'd like to put it on an agreed value policy as it would be impossible to get another low mileage Jap import 850R for under £10k at the moment, and I don't want the hassle of trying to convince an insurer that my car is worth at least that (and not something silly like £3k!)

I'm assuming a few of you have agreed value policies - who are you with, and does your policy have mileage restrictions? (I'm guessing that I'll be doing 6-8k miles a year as this is our daily driver).

Thanks as always

My C70 is on an agreed value and has been for the last five years. It has to be a second car, not in daily use, garaged at home and restricted to 3,000mls per year - my choice. Other than that cover is pretty much like any ordinary policy.

850R and T5 models are easier to get an agreed value as they are classed as 'Classics'
Lesser models more difficult as they are 'not old enough' or 'rare enough' according to what I was told last year. After a lot of searching I now have an agreed value through Lancaster on a classic policy. I was with Adrian Flux last year but they wouldn't give a classic policy for my GLT... 'but if it was an 850R to T5R it could be on a classic policy'

For an agreed value you need to supply lots of high quality pictures, links to similar cars which are for sale or recently been sold. They like to see service history, invoices for work carried out

My Gul T-5R Auto is insured at £14,000 agreed value through Lancaster who are classic specialists. Total cost per year is around £225 of which the agreed value part is about £25. That's for 5000 miles a year.

Give Lancaster a call. You will have to provide numerous current photos and answer comprehensive questions about the car and furnish proof of works done and also any market values of sold / for sale cars.

Regards
John

I've mentioned this company quite a few times on this site:~ "because they are good" & provide a very personnel service to get things right, you speak to people!
Three cars with them- two Volvo (V70'97 & 240 '88) 1954 Riley since the 1970s
All agreed value and a very simple procedure to gain it- descent set of photos etc. Adjustments made to meet market prices is also very straightforward.
Conditions as already mentioned but nothing that stops you enjoying the cars.

Worth a call.
Bob.

Mine's on a classic policy with Peter Best, agreed value, limited mileage etc. etc. As above, you need to provide several good quality hard copy photos for the agreed value. Probably worth the hassle in your case though!

Cheers

You will most likely find that obtaining agreed value classic car cover for a daily driver car with the mileage you do is not going to be easy - or cheap.
In principle, yes classic car policies are great, where the car is used as an alternative to an everyday car, and it’s mileage is restricted - generally to 3K, sometimes to 6K.
Yes, you will get an agreed value on such policies, but they do not depend on or generate a no claims bonus, so if you switch to such a policy, then you can kiss goodbye to your NCD after 2 years of non use.
There are probably insurers out there who will provide you with an agreed value outside of a normal classic car type policy, but with yours being an ‘only’ car, covering a reasonable mileage, then you may struggle to find cover at reasonable cost.
No doubt not out of the question, but possibly not straightforward.

Default Agreed value

Had absolutely no problems getting agreed value insurance on our 98 S70 and 97 S90 earlier this year with Adrian Flux.

Great, but under what type of policy, and with what restrictions on use?

Useless when I rang them, did lots of sucking through their teeth noises and gave a quote of £800, and only as a second car, and 5k max per year otherwise would be even more.
Nope.
