That's a good looking Volvo. I picked up a 56 plate XC70 a few weeks back, also on a whim. I have the RTI discs, happy to loan them to you, if you pick up postage.

New tyres fitted & fresh mot with only an advisory on the inner surface of the front discs being a little pitted, I’m happy with that

Oh and the steering twitch, although it’s still there is much improved with the new tyres, it doesn’t seem to make the car dive about any more, just feels a little nervous

Tiny bit of progress this afternoon, I fitted the front mudflaps robbed off the other car in the scrapyard, sorted out the n/s/f door checkstrap click, that was just a loose screw in the anchor bracket, I’ve even changed the bulb in the ignition switch. Next thing on my list is to pop the rear bumper off & sort the parking sensors, as most of the time I get a continuous tone & it turns the wireless down, I’ve got a few spare sensors though I suspect it will be the wiring loom. They do work on very odd occasions but mostly not

Little update, I’ve done the transmission fluid, reset the counter & cleared the fault codes again & what a difference, it’s a different animal to drive now, so much nicer. The old fluid was like used Diesel engine oil, absolutely filthy. It’s lovely & bright red now. It feels more like it works in conjunction with the engine now, instead of battling against it.
I’ve had a go at sorting my sat nav but the drive would appear to be knackered, it recognises the disc now but doesn’t spin it up. Still need to look at the parking sensors, they no longer show an error but they still don’t work. Can the towbar upset them, mine has a removable one but I haven’t got a key, so I was wondering is it seeing that as an obstacle???

Hi

Yes, the rovablw tow bar can set of the park sensors on its own, mine does so I keep it stowed when not in use. There is a cover for this which you may have stowed somewhere.

The keys appear to have a short range of numbers, I purchased a spare which was 'off the shelf's from a supplier on ebay.

Did you sort the key fob battery cover? Again you can purchase a replacement blank fob and just use the part with the buttons and electrics transposed. They also benefit from a better hasp for the key ring.

Hope this helps. And btw, car is looking great!

Thanks John
I did wonder when it doesn’t bring a message up on the dash & the fact that there are no stored fault codes. I’ve never looked, is the key number on the barrel?
I haven’t sorted the battery cover yet, I was looking at those key bodies on eBay, I might order a couple as these are both quite tired looking. I know what you mean about the key ring attachment, it is a bit weak.
It’s cleaned up quite nicely & with the little details sorted, such as the missing ocean race badge on the n/s/f door, all the little broken/missing trim pieces & the addition of a proper set of front mud flaps it’s turned into quite a nice thing

I nipped out and took some pictures of my tow bar 'bits'. The key is stamped and the lock ring has the same number stamped on it. There is usually a small black cover that keeps the lock clean, but that has broken off on mine.

Fyi, my key and lock number is stamped '10007' but is clearly marked on the boss.

I also show you pics of the covers and the small bag that the unit is stored in. The bag has instructions written on it too.

Hopefully you may find the other bits secreted in the boot somewhere. Mine is stored to the right of the battery in a small well.

Hope this helps and apologies for the mucky parts, just been clearing garden rubbish and due a clean!

Whatever you do, do not throw away the nav drive.

If the CD mech is broken, you can replace the mech with one from another unit. But the main board must stay with your car, as it is coded to your car.

As for parking sensors, water in the gaps between the sensor and the bumper will cause them to deliver false readings, on my car the beep continuously when it has been raining a lot and my car was uses in the rain a lot.
Once dried out in the garage, they come right again.

Also, if the wiring loom is wet then that can also cause issues with the beeps not working.

VIDA will let you test and monitor each sensor, so you can quickly tell which is good and which is bad.
