Default XC90....New Project

Well I made a rash purchase last weekend whilst visiting one of my favourite scrapyards.
I had been on the hunt for bits for my 850 & Rover 75s when I spotted what appeared to be a fairly presentable XC90 D5 Ocean Race auto.
I made enquiries & was told “it drove in” so I borrowed a battery & fired it up, it started without issue & sounded healthy enough. There was however a transmission warning on the dash. Anyway a price was agreed & home it came........very slowly, as soon as I tried to accelerate an engine warning message came on & it went into limp mode. It would reset by cycling the ignition, but would come straight back on.
I read the faults off it & there were a few engine related historic faults, I cleared them off & interrogated the transmission, to find one error relating to torque lock up. This error cleared straight away, so I reset the counter & ordered some fresh fluid. A road test was very successful, with no messages returning & no limp mode.
It has a strange twitch to the steering, which I’m pretty sure is down to it having the wrong fluid, as the feed hose from the reservoir to the pump had been cobbled with a bit of heater hose & the system topped up with red ATF.
I have a replacement hose & will buy some CHF this week & flush it through.
Other than that it seems pretty good, the body is pretty tidy though the interior is rancid...........or was until today.
It is fitted with the sat nav that pops up out of the dash, with the drive under the passenger front seat. It all seems to function but there is no disc. Now I don’t really use sat navs as I prefer a map, but I would like to get it working. Can anyone advise which disc I need? I have looked on eBay & am a bit puzzled.

You order the discs from ebay, and installation is easy, if time consuming. You order according to the year and design, but yours could well be the RTI unit.

I updated mine 2 years ago with ebay discs, worked a treat.

Walking in and just buying an old volvo to work on, that's awesome. Don't tell my wife.

Does anybody know a decent scrapyard (like this one!) In the Reading / Newbury area? 🙂

Good luck with the car, sounds like fun.

The project is progressing nicely. Last week I returned to the same yard as he had another almost identical one in the pile. I took my shopping list of about a dozen items & fulfilled my entire needs. I got a n/s headlamp as one of the moulded retaining lugs for the tent pegs has been broken off mine, bonnet struts so no more head injuries, power steering hose from reservoir to pump & the little mounting bracket, some parking sensors to help diagnose my fault & various bits of trim which were either missing or broken on my car.
I think I have fitted everything except the sensors.
This afternoon was the turn of the power steering, I fitted my “new” hose & bracket & flushed the atf out of the system & filled it with CHF, I’m not convinced it’s fixed, but it does seem less twitchy, a higher speed road test will tell me I reckon. Today’s mot & tyres had to be postponed due to my man’s workload, but he assured me if I pop along after work on Tuesday he will sort it.
Deep cleaning has also been taking place & it’s scrubbing up nicely, the interior was quite grubby, especially beneath the 2nd row of seats, but with these removed I have scrubbed the carpet to death & blocked my hoover with dog hair. Externally it is responding well to a good polish & has surprisingly few battle scars for a car with 163k in the clock.

Oh and I’ve also refurbished the keys & got all functions working (one wouldn’t unlock & the other wouldn’t turn the lights on) I could however do with a battery door for one of them as the locating peg is broken off. I also managed to repair the remote for the satnav using parts from another found in an S60, the batteries had leaked in both, one rotting the contacts off the circuit board end & the battery link contacts had rotted off the other, so that now works. Just need to bc work out which disc I need & that will be everything functioning

What part of the world are you in?
What year car is it?

Both of these determine what nav discs you need
