I second that. I have always tried to use Genuine Volvo parts, from the main stealer when they are still in stock.

unfortunately ive been told Volvo no longer do the shafts.

the reason im trying to get some decent parts is because ive owned the car 16-17 years done 30k miles and this will be the second time these have needed changing. think these have only done maybe 20k miles.

anyone know where i can get maybe luxury option. euro only do cheese made Q drive ones.

Give FRF in Swansea a call - they've been able to get 'unobtainium' parts for me recently so you also may be in luck. You may have to wait a few weeks if they're put on a special order to Sweden, but its worth the wait IMHO.

Did he just look on the parts list and saw "No longer available" and said bye bye ? Did he look up the volvo classic warehouse in sweden ? they should do that for you ... try an older dealer like Keith Price Abergavenny or FRF swansea

it was FRF that i asked. pretty sure they said only available as a shaft and no longer available. probably loony money if a complete shaft anyway.

I have used the J&R CV joints on my T5R as I could not get Volvo ones and replacing just the ABS rings was a no go due to the corrosion on the original Volvo units. The price seemed a little low to me but gave them a punt and the quality looked good to me and they measured up good next to the old Volvo stock ones, just needed a paint before fitting and more CV grease as the little pack that came with them was just not enough in my book.

I have only done 2000 miles with them so far, no problems with them so far.

Dont think I can do a link thing but I will give it a try

Volvo drive shafts have always been about £350 since 1992 so perhaps they are good value these days :-)

Would look into good used shafts. Have a pair of turbo shafts off a very low mileage car in my own spare parts pile. No sign of needing them for a while, but they are expensive*

*Expensive when you think a pair of them is about the value of the car, but then will give you 150-200k of happy motoring again.

Think some folk have bought cheaper end of the market/badly reman shafts that are for NA cars and then had on a turbo petrol/diesel and wondered why they've imploded after about 6 months. AFAIk they are the same fitting, just a lot beefier CV's and shaft size.

Hi 007,

Like you i would like to replace both my CV's the one makes a noise and the other the cotter ring is causing the ABS to trigger due to the corroded teeth.

As for parts from our friends in Swansea they come from the GCP warehouse which hold old Volvo parts.

https://www.gcp.se/en/

As for Volvo they will be renovated and cost a fortune. Where possible i try and have the "Volvo" part but if you know who is the OEM manufacture buy them.

I've tried that German website before autodoc but i find the French one MisterAuto are very good.

Just my two pennies.

I vaguely recall that Volvo have only done them as complete shafts for some time now, possibly because the labour cost of changing a CV joint in a dealership workshop makes it cheaper to just change the whole shaft, it's annoying for those of us who can change a CV joint for ourselves for just the cost of a Saturday afternoon with the bonus of avoiding being dragged round the shops by the other half.
