Default T-5R Stolen catalytic converter

Some opportunistic oik has stolen the catalytic converter from my T-5R

Are old Volvos regular targets for this kind of theft?

How much is a replacement?

Do modern replacements still contain the same attractive quantity of precious metals? (not that that's going to be obvious to the oik with the trolley jack and angle-grinder)

Is there anything that can be done to deter / prevent it happening again? — apart from not parking it in South London, of course

Sorry to hear, can it be parked differently to make it harder, quite surprised they went for yours, they normally do 4x4's due to the height :/

They don't specialise in 4x4's. When I worked on an industrial estate near Feltham a couple of "oiks" removed the cat from one of the staff's Honda (a Jazz I believe) in the staff car park at the front of the building one lunchtime.

All caught on multiple security cameras. Took only minutes with a trolly jack. Another staff member coming back from lunch even wandered over and asked them what they were doing and was told not to worry as they had it all sorted and were just finishing!

I haven't heard of this being done for a while - and as said ^^^^ it used to be 4x4s so that the miscreants can easily slide under the vehicle to gain access.

Really sorry to hear about this. On the other hand, its a good excuse to get a 100 or 200 cell performance cat

theyre worth a fortune the 850 cats, thats why. In the dawn of the catalytic converter the werent too sure how much precious metal to use, and as such put too much in, hence the high scrap value

Stamped Holland - 70 pound
Stamped Sweden - 100 pound
Unstamped OE factory fitment - 185 pound

thats the going rates on them'

Thanks for the replies — so, is there such a thing as a reasonably priced aftermarket converter?

Do you need one on these? You hear of people quoting de cat etc in for sale ads.
Not necessarily for Volvo's but a general observation.
These are quite primative ecu wise compared to modern vehicles and doubt it would take much to map it out if that is the phrase.
