Water at passenger footwell

Hey folks,

Wondering if anyone has has issues with water coming in at the fuse box in the passenger footwell?

Is there anywhere that's common for it to come through before I go taking the windscreen out to reseal it. Also if anyone knows where I could get a new seal or if that's something whoever does the work will be able to make/get/have?

Screen is most common cause of water coming in there.

The screen is bonded not a rubber. If corrosion has caused the problem you need to sort that while the screen is out

If you are keep the original pre 91 trim around the screen you need new clips or you can use the rubber that makes it look like a 91- car

Thanks it's a 91 tors so I think it's the later trim anyway. Rather get to it and sort it before it gets worse. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I could be missing that could have let it in.

There's also the grommet on the windscreen wiper motor letting water in from the scuttle drain, missing or damaged waterproof sealing paper behind the fuse box, and corroded door pillar.
I once pinpointed a leak in the windscreen seal and managed to seal it from the inside by pushing black gutter sealant in using a cut-off pencil.

If you have a sunroof, make sure the drain tubes are located in the grommets in the a-pillar and not draining into the footwell (or leaking elsewhere).

The wiper motor has a seal under it and a grommet behind the dash. Worth checking.

This applies to the '88 240 model but may still be worth checking on your car:~

Two drain holes exist (hidden under the exterior trim) as the lower corners turn into the bottom screen metal.
These are conveniently located by Volvo to allow water to drain over the inner "A" post locations- fuse box- side trim and potentially rusting out the inner posts.
They are not visible or accessible from the underside of the dashboard areas - a ledge exists that allows water to run back to a the above sections.

Some screens may still have Butyl as the bonding agent (my car did)
This is slightly easier to remove-- maybe!

Back to the drain holes- I would fill/seal these, Polyurethane used for bonding the screens is fine if you dome the top layer etc.
A grommet could be used if you wish.

Thanks everyone for the areas to look at. Since I posted it has stopped leaking but will persevere and check what has been suggested to avoid more problems further down the line.
