PCV 5/8 Heater host Kinks
Hi All
Was trying to fit a 5/8 (16mm) heater hose on the breather box, but when you put the manifold on the hose kinks quite badly. Not sure how this guy managed to do the same thing without any problems. Thanks

Copper 90 degree or street elbow should also do it (you can extend the spigot with 15mm pipe if required)
Trust it helps Bob. |

My hose must have been more rigid as I never had that problem.
I did buy the 90 degree plastic fittings just in case but didn't need them. The hose was a pig to fit under the intake manifold, but after a lot of swearing it went on - without any kinking or pinching issues.

Hi:~
The first link is for push fit plumbing and for this application the fitting is quite bulky, oil may also effect the same. The second link is for copper and I would use these- pictures attached. A street elbow has an extended spigot, the opposite end may need a short length of pipe soldered into place- these fittings are end feed for copper or have an incorporated solder ring. I've used the above on classic car heater hose and the 15mm pipe is a tight fit into the hose- the fitting itself (socket) is too larger for the hose. Either of the bends shown will work. The local plumbers merchant may have long spigot bends ie already formed-save soldering. Your new hose should be oil resistant quality. Hope it helps. Regards Bob. Bob's copper method would go... I've never read anything he writes that doesn't stand-up - I went thus...
Mine's vastly tighter than anything most of you will have... I've factory-fit Bi-Fuel injectors in that space too. See pix (see the 'mushroom' shapes ). I used a proper barbed hose-tail elbow, the plastic stuff is too bulky for my space, and shuts-down the pipe anyways. I put brass, straight from the box. And yes, For chissakes use 5/8 16mm fuel-hose. Make sure you're not using heater-hose, it'll go like custard. As for the 4-5mm small-bore section, I took that round the front ( clipped to the rad) in 8mm pipe, And then - at the throttle-body end, threw in a 8mm hose-take-off fitting to keep the 'flow' up to par. This'll increase the flow, and you can get 'at' it. On my 1999 NA car I removed the 'orrible 'orrible... restrictive plastic elbow that Tees into the large air intake hose, and replaced with a brass Female 1/2" BSP brass plumbing-fitting with a 16mm 5/8" hose-tail/barb..

There's no 'right' way. Remember your fluid-dynamics, the longer a pipe gets the more this reduces flow, Double the diameter puts flow up by 5-7 times!
https://www.copely.com/tools/flow-rate-calculator/ Not best, - it'll restrict in itself, yet if you're really strugglin' find one of those hose-springs to place inside the hose, you shouldn't need it though. Provided you get it to 'flow', it'll be dandy. This thread, as sign-posted in the 'Killers & Std. Faults' post is still the de-facto source: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...hp?f=1&t=53448 'Go BIG'.... She said.

Haven’t had chance to get back to this yet and the original hose is back on. Just wondering if the mod will make any improvements or benefit this N/A engine: 2.0 10V B5202S or is it more beneficial to T5.

Note that the OP has used heater hose. This is quite rigid so no surprise about the kink. That is for water and not oily fumes. Get the proper Volvo one with the end pre moulded to fit properly.
