My understanding was that the seal VO3528809 was suitable for both 700 & 900 series. The fact that yours is exactly the same length as mine would seem to confirm that.
Correct me if I am wrong, but those images appear to be for a pattern part, not the OE. The part numbers shown are 1022781 and 102277. as substitutes for VO3528809 and the fourth image is showing as discontinued. Try to contact a Volvo parts dealer rather than some other supplier.

Some parts fell out when I slid the headliner back..As I remember, a long rod with some springs and and two thick, curved, heavy duty looking pieces.

I was going to take some pictures, but I didn't want to hijack the original posters thread anymore than I have already.
Free940,
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I had missed the fact that you had already moved the sunroof headliner back.
Do the long rod and springs you mentioned as falling out look anything like the road and springs in my images 3, 4 & 7 ? If they do then that would explain why it was possible to move the headlining back without the sunroof panel moving. That rod is part of the sunroof frame and the springs should connect with a lightweight roughly rectangular frame (which can be seen in the top right corner of my images 3 & 7 ) which clips under a clip on the upper side of the headlining. As in my image 1.
What are those “thick curved heavy duty pieces made of? The only thick curved heavy duty pieces that I can think of would be the pieces on each side which control the up and down movement of the rear of the sunroof, but I think that the sunroof panel should have two torx screws into each piece on each side as I described and they should also be attached to the sunroof frame somehow, but I do not know how as I did not interfere with them, other than to remove the sunroof fixing torx screws.
The only other two pieces I can think of would be the support arms for the wind deflector, but they could hardly be described as heavy duty.
Images of the said items would be helpful if you can.

Sorry for any confusion, it would be great if 3528809 suited both and I am well encouraged that they are after your experience. Basically, mine looks like a ‘U’ shape (on it's side) with a metal insert as did your picture. Indeed, on other old threads I have read 700 and 900 sunroof parts are compatible. Not really sure by what you mean by ‘a pattern part, not the OE’ (is it a copy rather than an original?). The pictures are from the Skandix website, when I put in my VIN, it tells me that 1022778/1334904 is for my car but is discontinued and that 1022781/3528809 will not fit my car. I found the 3528809 part on Volvopartswebstore site as well but they were less specific as to suitability. It is just the pictures on Skandix look so different to each other and I understood them to be extremely reliable so I lost heart.
Hence my interest when I saw the picture of your ‘old’ seal on your roof. I will of course check with the Volvo parts dealer as soon as the open again after this Pandemic is over. All motor factors, garages and dealers are closed here at the moment.
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.
Mike

Apparently item 17, part number 3528809, sealing strip is not available from Volvo Parts Web Store here in the U.S. of A. I just ordered one from Scandcar BV for $111.00 USD including $45.00 shipping. I hope I did the right thing. Maybe I should have rang my local Volvo dealer first.. Oh well..

From memory I am unable to answer your questions. Next time I get a chance, I will take some pictures of my sunroof situation for posting.

I am waiting for some electrical parts that are on order for under the hood (bonnet!) and plan to continue my Volvo project when they get here. You can say that I am taking a break after my weeks of continual effort on getting her roadworthy.

Not a problem. When you are ready to try to deal with the sunroof is soon enough.

Just out of interest, where is Loxahatchee?

Stay safe.

Dave, Thanks for posting the info. from volvopartswebstore.

Mike, Those images of the items from Skandix appear to be two different items which purport to be copies of the original. I have never tried to order anything from volvopartswebstore, I simply use the site for reference and information. I don’t know anything about Scandcar BV so cannot comment, although, having had a look on their website, they do appear to supply genuine original items.
Yes, as mentioned in another thread elsewhere on this forum, always try your main dealer first, you may be pleasantly surprised, as I was when I enquired about the seal and the wind deflector. My main dealer was unable to supply a “slip hub” for my cooling fan, but another dealer in Wales was able to do so. Always worth a ‘phone call.

I remember something about that seal being NLA for a while so it's possible that although the partswebstore can probably get it, they haven't updated their site as i understand Volvo reintroduced it.
